Quarter Horse Youth World Cup 2006 We have a team of 5 currently in Amarillo, Texas at the 2006 Youth Quarter Horse World Cup. The team consists of Steffi Young, Olivia Waldock, Danielle Hamilton, Kristin Gribble-Bowring and Hope Kena. News Updates Postcard from Amarillo - 1 July 2006 Most of the New Zealand Team arrived in the U.S. on the 20th and spent two days in Dallas. During our stay in Dallas, we all spent a day at Six Flags Over Texas, and some even attempted The Titan, which for those who rode was a thrill at 80 mph and 255 feet! While we were in Dallas, the Texas Rangers had a game against San Diego, and a couple of us couldn't resist the chance to go! Although the Rangers didn't win, the atmosphere and support that Texas showed for the Rangers was amazing! Rumor reached the FOX Network that there were New Zealanders at their first ball game, and a representative came and had a chat with us. There was Danielle Hamilton, her mother, Jackie Hamilton, myself, Olivia Waldock, and my mother, Jan Waldock. We didn't realize that the representative planned to interview us on live television about our first ball game experience! We had a rehearsal and then went live. It was a thrill when people who had been outside came up to us in the stands saying they had seen us on TV. We were even spotted out in the Amarillo airport! Arriving in Amarillo and getting to the motel was a relief to know we were finally here. The welcoming dinner was very entertaining with motivational speaker and the first introduction to the other teams. All the evening events from the "Texas" drama in Palo Duro Canyon to Wonderland Park to the barbecue at the Pluhars' ranch have all been great to get to know other teams. We all seem to have really nice horses and are excited to have started the competition.
