be on the NZ Q.H Youth World Cup Team and to break in and train
a western show horse on her own. Ellen is looking forward to the
Transtasman because she gets to spend a whole week with Tania who
is managing the team and it is a chance to catch up with the Q.H
friends she made in Australia recently. Ellens Transtasman goals
are to learn all she can, try for a first or second placing and
to have fun. Ellen would like to thank her Mum and Dad, all the
youth trainers, Tania Mapp, Dave and Steffi Young, Mark Chamberlain,
the people who have let Ellen ride on their horses to help her learn,
Transtasman organisers, Q.H youth organisers and her own fantastic

America for training and get hi-point awards on her own horses.
Rachael is looking forward to the Transtasman as a great learning
experience, a chance to catch up with Australian friends, being
part of a team and making great memories. Rachaels Transtasman goals

that if you send photos of another person, permission must be given
by them for the photo to be used). Please note that there is no
guarantee that all photos will be used but the more we have to choose
from the better representation of riders and horses can be produced.
Consent to publish the photos will be automatic on submission of
the photos.

Report from Dave Young - Manager
I
would have to say NZ should be very proud of the Amateur and Youth
teams that traveled to Tonimbuk last week. The horses were varied
in sizes and stages of training and were a case of luck of the draw.
All riders were very fortunate indeed as the Australian QHA had
obtained the services of Brendan Brown from Gainesville Texas a
trainer who specializes in training Amateur and Youth riders. He
was an excellent clinician and was also the judge. The clinics alone
made the trip a great experience.
Results of the Youth.

The youth really dug deep in the last class being 19 points down
and clawed 9pts back to end 10 points down a fantastic result.
Josh had a great show, as reserve he was able to ride in the show
itself and thanks to Trish Wettenhall a lady who rode in the select
amateur classes was kind enough to loan her good horse to Josh.

Quarter
Horse Youth programme
The AQHA-NZ runs a very active programme for riders 18 and under,
including the opportunity to travel overseas to train and compete
in both the Youth World Cup and the
Australian Challenge. Good sportsmanship, unequalled competition,
team spirit and lots of good fun have made these events that teens
look forward to as a highlight of their Youth career.
AQHA-NZ Youth Development Programme
The squad meets four times a year in school holidays for training
and other activities. Whether you have your sights set on the World
Cup or the Australian Challenge (in which case you must be a squad
member) or just want to improve your riding skills and have fun,
this is the place to do it.
Details:
What is it?
The youth development programme (known as the youth squad) has been
developed through the AQHA-NZ for all youth, regardless of age and
location, who own and ride a quarter horse.
Purpose
To provide training and development opportunities four times per
year to youth riders at different locations throughout New Zealand.
These have predominantly been in the North Island due to the majority
of its members being in this location.
Can anyone join?
This programme is open to all youth riders aged 18years and under
who own (have their quarter horse in their name) and ride a quarter
horse.
What does the programme offer?
* Great new friendships and team building activities.
* Four training and development weekends throughout the year. These
weekends are always the middle weekend of the school holidays with
the youth camp being held early January for all youth to attend
(members and non-members).
* Quality training techniques by professional trainers and ex-youth
who share their knowledge and experience to improve the riding ability
of the youth.
* Opportunities to represent New Zealand both within New Zealand
and overseas.
* To be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic group of youth working
towards bettering their riding skills and abilities in all areas
of Western Riding.
How much does it cost?
A fee of $100 per year will include all of the above. There is a
small additional cost of $15 for the youth camp in January due to
extra time and costs. Fees are payable by September 1st for the
year.
Can I come and see before I join?
Any youth are welcome to come to any of the weekend meets and see
what the youth are involved in. There is a cost of $25 for the weekend
and if you join, this will be deducted from the annual fee.
