Guidelines for Registering your horse with AQHA (USA)

Register your horse in its country of birth first.

The horse's pedigree must be 7/8ths pure QH breeding to be eligible for AQHA registration. Sue Temperton can do further research and the horse will be accepted if earlier generations look okay.

Fill out the AQHA registration application and send this along with a copy of your horse's AQHA-NZ registration papers, and a pedigree tracing back to the closest AQHA parentage or at least 5 generations.
- if both your horse's parents are USA registered you don't need to send the pedigree
- if a 5 generation pedigree is needed send $25 and the details required to the office, the request will be sent on to Sue Temperton who completes the official extended pedigree as accepted by the USA office.

The international registration fee is $25 (USD) for members of AQHA, $65 (USD) for non-members (the $65 fee includes a 12 mth membership).

Send application, documentation & payment to: Rosa Henderson, International Registration, American Quarter Horse Association, PO Box 200, Amarillo, Texas 79168, USA

Notes on filling out the registration application:
Section 1 - tick the box indicating the horse was born South of the equator
Section 2 - put the name of your horse from its NZ papers, do not enter 6 name choices
Section 3 & 4 - as described
Secton 5 - fill out DOB, country of birth.
Sire details: if the sire is USA registered put his USA registration number, otherwise put his AQHA-NZ registration number.
Dam details: if USA registered put USA registration number, otherwise put AQHA-NZ registration number. Write owner of sire and dam only if known.
The next part of section 5 is important for international registrations - where it says "name of owner/lesee of dam when foal was born" - it does not matter who bred the horse it is the current owner of the horse you are applying to register with AQHA who should fill out their details in this part.
Section 7 Breeder's Certificate Section - not required.
Section 9 - not applicable
Section 10 - as explained above
Draw in Marking section - draw in horse's markings exactly as show on AQHA-NZ registration.
Section 11 - fill in written description of markings
